Hello! soIrée
Biggest achievement: “Founding azafashions.
com, a global e-commerce platform which curates
fashion by over 250 leading Indian designers.
My goal when starting this was to provide
international access to Indian craftsmanship
and talent in design.”
Success to you is: “Setting goals outside your
reach and surpassing them.”
Biggest life lesson: “Believe in yourself.
Nothing is achieved overnight – it takes hard
work, patience and perseverance. Mistakes can
be the best teacher; learn from them and never
give up on anything you truly believe in.”
Personal style preference: “I can usually be
found in either a dress or a kurta. I love drapes,
capes and fusion pieces which blend the Indian
aesthetic with modern cuts.”
Fashion icon(s) you look up to? “I don’t
have one fashion icon per se; I like to imbibe
aspects of fashion sensibilities that resonate
with me across a diverse lot of individuals.
Audrey Hepburn, Anamika Khanna, Blake
Lively and my mother would all feature in
my list.”
Make-up rules you follow: “Keep it simple;
don’t overdo it with make-up. I’m a big fan of
dewy skin, full eyebrows, mascara and nude
or blush pink lips. I believe that the purpose
of make-up is to enhance one’s natural beauty
and features, rather than make one look like a
completely different person.”
What’s in your bag? “Everything! My bag is
like Mary Poppins’ bag (haha). I am constantly
on the go, so I literally carry anything I could
possibly need – my wallet, various snacks (I’m
always hungry!), make-up, lotion, lip balm,
sunglasses, water, emergency medicines, a book,
a shawl, a charger, my laptop. I even have some
accessories just in case I have to go somewhere
after work. I put everything in pouches and yes
my bag is needlessly heavy!”
How do you de-stress? “Reading a book. At
any given point in time I’m reading two-three
different books.”
The last book you read: “Bad Blood by
John Carreyrou. This is a must read – it’s an
absolutely thrilling tale of how investigative
journalism brought to light extensive fraud at
what was once Silicon Valley’s hottest start-up,
valued at almost US$10 billion!”
Your instant pick-me-up when you are
feeling blue... “Talking to my husband,
Saharsh, or playing with my dog, Truffle. Both
are guaranteed to make me smile.”
The first thing you do in the morning:
“Drink water and eat. I wake up thirsty and
starving and cannot speak to anyone before
I eat!”
The last thing you do before going to bed:
“I pray.”
