2018 RACE RECAP HighlightsChannel 4
Lewis Hamilton triumphed at last year’s Hungarian Grand
Prix to take his sixth win at the Hungaroring. While it
was relatively plain sailingfor the British driver, the same
couldn’t be saidfor his Mercedesteam-mate.Valtteri
Bottas benefitted from a slowFerrari pitstopto leapfrog
SebastianVettel for second place but,fi ve laps from the
fl ag, Vettel attemptedto repass Bottas on the outside of
Turn 2. The Finn locked up and clattered intoVettel. Three
laps later, Bottas did the sameto Daniel Ricciardo (Red
Bull) atTurn 1 and he was handed a 10-second penalty,
relegating himto a distantfi fth.

The Hungarian Grand Prixis a popularfi xture on the F1
calendar and marks the last race before the enforced
factory shutdown in theAugust summer break. Dueto its
sinewy characteristics, the Hungaroring has been dubbed
‘Monaco without the houses’. The difficulty infollowing
another car andovertaking puts a premium on qualifying.
The other side effect of the circuit’s tight and twisty
nature is that tyre strategy is often more important than
outright race pace. Budapest inAugust can bevery warm
and hot tracktemperatures can leadto a high rate of
degradation. If their rear tyresoverheat, drivers risk losing
traction and a slowexit out of thefi nal corner can make
them vulnerableto an overtake in the DRSzone located
on the start/finish straight.

THE MAIN EVENT KEY CORNER: TURN 14To be fast at this 180-degree
right-hander a car needs good front-end grip, but traction is
also important because the longest straight on the circuit
follows andexit speed is critical.
