‘I’vealwaysbeenfascinatedwith

thenaturalworld.I grewupin

northernVermont,a stone’sthrow

fromvast,unbrokenwoodsinanera

withoutvideogames,DVDsandtext

messages.Instead,I’dthrowona

backpackandgooutexploring,

camerainhand.Afterleavingmy

careerasanexplosivesengineer,I

movedtoMontanaandfound

myselfsittingbya lakein

theRockyMountains

andwasstruckbyits

beauty– a beauty

thatdeservedtobe

captured.Inthat

momentI decidedto

focus on photography.

Itwasthecolourofbutterflies

thatdrewmetothem.I wanteda

waytocapturetheirbeautyina way

that’sneverbeendonebefore.I

startbytakinghundredsofhighly

magnifiedimagesofsmallsections

ofthewings,movingthecameraa

minisculeamounteachtime.Once

myeditingprogrammehadstacked

themintoa singleimage,I began

workingwiththepicturestocreate

a beautiful,kaleidoscope-likeeffect.

Ifeela thrillofdiscovery,creating

theseimages.I entwineartand

photography,takingnaturalbeauty

andshowcasingit ina waythat’s

neverbeenseenbefore– likea

butterflyemergingfroma cocoon.

I liketocallit Metamorphosisart.

Workingbymyselfgivesmetime

toreflect.Myroutinechangesfrom

onedaytothenext,butalways

startswitha strongcupof

coffee!I gooutinsearch

ofpicturestocaptureor

stayathome,editing.

I’vegota wonderful

viewofthemountains

outofmywindow,so

I’minspiredbymy

surroundings.

Myartworkswonderfullywellin

acountryhome.Againsta neutral

wall,thevividcoloursstandout

andliftyourmood.I’drecommend

notputtingthemina frame;the

freedomandflightofthebutterfly

shouldn’t be boxed in.’
