THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS BACK, AND STATESIDE THOSE EARLY KICKOFFS

ARE BEST TAKEN IN WITH BREAKFAST. SO WE HAD JASON HICKS—A

U.K.  NATIVE AND THE CHEF AT JONES WOOD FOUNDRY, A BRITISH

GASTROPUB IN NEW YORK CIT Y—CREATE DISHES INSPIRED BY EPL TEAMS

BRE AKFAST CLUB S

1. PEP’S SCOTCH

EGG BURGER

INGREDIENTS:

Semi-hard-boiled
egg encased in
a house-made
chorizo sausage
blend, bread-
crumbed and
deep-fried, on a
toasted brioche
bun with tartar
sauce and lettuce
INSPIRATION:
Like free-spending
Manchester City
under manager
Pep Guardiola,
this sandwich is
decadent—and
also hard to beat.
It’s a British
classic with a
spicy twist.

4. PULISIC

PANCAKES

INGREDIENTS:

Pancakes infused
with cocoa
powder, covered
with fresh red
berries, drizzled
with mascarpone
and maple syrup,
and topped with
Hershey chocolate
shavings
INSPIRATION:
It’s a meal fit for an
oligarch. After new
signing Christian
Pulisic—a Hershey,
Pa., native—
scores his first
goal for Chelsea,
owner Roman
Abramovich might
well indulge.

2. HE AV Y-ME TAL

OMELETTE

INGREDIENTS:

Rolled three-egg
omelette with
chopped black
winter truffle
and sautéed wild
mushrooms,
served with hash
browns mixed with
strips of shiso
peppers
INSPIRATION:
This dish, named
for Liverpool
manager Jürgen
Klopp’s credo, will
relentlessly attack
your taste buds.
The combination
of ingredients and
flavors makes it
pure class.

5. TO DARE IS

TO (AVOCA)DO

INGREDIENTS:

Crushed avocado
seasoned with
olive oil, salt and
pepper, served on
seven-grain toast
and topped with
black mission fig,
a quartered boiled
egg and a touch of
ricotta cheese
INSPIRATION:
Some might
deem their recent
success a fad, but
both avocado toast
and Tottenham—
trendy picks at the
breakfast table
and the top of the
EPL table—aren’t
going anywhere.

3. SOFT EGGS

AND GUNNERS

INGREDIENTS:

Sof t-boiled
eggs with tops
removed, served
with strips of
toasted bread.
Seasoned with
Maldon salt flakes
from the coastal
town of Essex,
England
INSPIRATION:
Soft in the middle,
these eggs fall
apart easily.
(Sound familiar?)
But unlike Arsenal,
that’s intentional.
Those strips of
bread—known as
soldiers—are for
scooping up yolk.

6. FERGIE’S

FULL ENGLISH

INGREDIENTS:

Breakfast
sausage, loin
bacon, black
pudding, grilled
tomato, portobello
field mushroom,
fried bread, baked
beans, fried egg.
Served with
coffee or tea
INSPIRATION:
It’s a breakfast of
champions for the
club with the most
EPL titles, all under
former manager
Alex Ferguson. But
mix it all together
and you get today’s
Manchester
United—a mess.

EATS: FOOD. DRINK. CULTURE. SPORTS.
