LUKE CASPER
Tennis Santa Cruz, Calif.
Luke, a rising junior at Bellarmine College Prep, defeated
the top-ranked player 3–6, 7–6 (7–1), 7–6 (8–6) to take the
16U USTA national clay court title in Delray Beach, Fla. He
rallied from five match points down in the final set. In May
he also won his second-straight section championship.
CHARLIE BERTRAND
Lacrosse Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Bertrand, a rising senior attack at Merrimack, scored
four goals and had three assists to lead the Warriors to
a 16–8 win over Limestone for the Division II title. It was
their second consecutive championship. Bertrand led
the nation with 78 goals, a school record.
CHASE HODGES
Tennis Duluth, Ga.
Hodges, 43, the men’s and women’s tennis coach at Georgia
Gwinnett, led both teams to NAIA titles. The two combined
for a 47–1 record, and the men had their fourth-straight
undefeated season for a sixth consecutive championship.
Hodges started the program seven years ago.
TJ DEFALCO
Volleyball Huntington Beach, Calif.
DeFalco, a recent Long Beach State grad, had 20 kills and
three aces in a 3–1 win over Hawaii that took the Division I
title for the second-straight season. He was named MVP.
The AVCA player of the year, DeFalco finished his career
with a program-record 183 aces.
JACINTO ARREDONDO
Baseball Center Hill, Fla.
Arredondo, a rising senior righthander at the University
of Tampa, got the last six outs to finish a 3–1 win over
Colorado Mesa to clinch the Division II championship. He
was named MVP, and appeared in all four games, throwing
81 / 3 scoreless innings, with eight strikeouts and one hit.
