Byron Allen, the Los An-
geles-based comedian
turned media entrepre-
neur, is among the latest
buyers to purchase at 220
Central Park South, the
Billionaires’ Row mega-
tower where hedge fund
manager Ken Griffin set a
new home price record
earlier this year.
Mr. Allen paid $26.75
million for a more than
3,000-square-foot, three-
bedroom unit at the build-
ing last month, according
to a person familiar with
the deal.
Mr. Allen, 58, is the
founder and
chief executive
of Entertain-
ment Studios,
which owns the
Weather Chan-
nel and recently
partnered with
Sinclair Broad-
cast Group to buy 21 re-
gional sports networks
from Walt Disney Co.
for $10.6 billion.
The property
adds to Mr. Al-
len’s growing
portfolio. In
June, he pur-
chased a $19.85
million home in Bev-
erly Hills, records show.
Last year, he bought a
nearly $23 million retreat
on the island of Maui in
Hawaii, according to a per-
son familiar with the deal.
The towering limestone
New York building com-
prises an 18-story “chalet”
fronting the street, with a
79-story tower behind.
It has private dining
rooms, an ath-
letic club, a li-
brary, a juice
bar, a basketball
court and a golf
simulator.
Mr. Allen is
the latest in a
long line of big
name buyers who have
inked deals at the build-
ing.
Mr. Griffin closed on a
roughly 24,000-square-
foot penthouse, for about
$238 million in January.

dential deal ever closed in
the U.S.

Och-Ziff Capital Management founder Daniel Och is list-
ing his penthouse at Manhattan condominium 15 Central
Park West for $57.5 million, joining a number of high-pro-
file owners to trade the Upper West Side building for the
newly built nearby tower 220 Central Park South.
Mr. Och purchased the Central Park West apartment for
nearly $22 million in 2008, records show. He bought it as a
white box and hired interior designer Tony Ingrao to re-
configure and design it, according to listing agent Deborah
Kern of the Corcoran Group. The apartment spans more
than 4,700 square feet plus about 1,600 square feet of exte-
rior space across two terraces.
With views of Central Park, the
Manhattan skyline and the Hudson
River, it currently has three bed-
rooms and a library, but the library
could be converted to another bed-
room, Ms. Kern
said. An open-
plan living room
has a decorative
ceiling and french
doors leading to
a Juliet balcony
overlooking Cen-
tral Park. A din-
ing room has syc-
amore-wood veneer paneling.
Fifteen Central Park West has a
fitness center, an indoor swimming
pool, a screening room, a private
restaurant and two separate en-
trances, including a gated motor
court. Since it was completed in
2007, the building has been known as one of Manhattan’s
most exclusive condos, attracting celebrities such as Denzel
Washington and the musician Sting. Sanford Weill, the for-
mer Citigroup chairman, sold his apartment there for $88
million in 2011, a Manhattan record at the time.
But in recent years a number of 15 Central Park owners
have moved to 220 Central Park South, a taller building de-
veloped by Vornado Realty Trust and completed this year.
Sting, for example, sold his unit at 15 Central Park West
last year for $50 million and picked up a $67.5 million
penthouse at the nearby tower, records show. Both proper-
ties are designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
“Fifteen Central Park West was the first of its kind, but
people always want to be in the most updated product,”
said Frances Katzen of Douglas Elliman, who is not in-
volved in the deal.
Mr. Och declined to comment on his reasons for selling.
