As a technology and market leader in electro-
hydraulics, Rexroth has spurred the evolution
of hydraulics. We pair standard components with
the advantages of digital control technology and
integrate functions in control software. Our
Connected Hydraulics solutions utilize open
standards for communication and work
seamlessly with other drive technologies.

Simplified design, fast startup, maximized
productivity and machine uptime are the results.
With ready-to-run “plug-and-play” electro-
hydraulic systems, smart and networkable
hydraulics for Industry 4.0 plants integrates
seamlessly into horizontal and vertical networks.

Canada Supercluster

announces first

cohort of projects

C

anada’s Digital Technology Supercluster announced its
first seven projects, totalling $40 million in investment
over three years, comprised of $15 million from the superclu-
ster and more than $25 million from industry, research and
academic partners.
The first cohort is focused on advancing Canada’s develop-
ment and application of digital technologies to solve some of
the most pressing challenges in the natural resources, health-
care, and industrial sectors. These projects can strengthen the
early detection and treatment of skin cancers, improve the
prediction of manufacturing failures and analyze the economic
and enviromental impacts of resource projects.
Each project is industry-led, with each project team includ-
ing five to nine partners collaborating to tackle ambitious
technology development challenges that require their collective
expertise to solve. The partners leverage British Columbia’s
and Canada’s powers in data analytics, genomics, quantum
computing, as well as virtual, mixed and augmented reality.
The seven projects approved under the Technology Lead-
ership Programs include the Learning Factory Digital Twin;
Predictive Analytics for Manufacturing Processes; Forest

Markforged raises

$82 million round

M

arkforged announced it has closed an $82 million Series
D round of funding led by Summit Partners with par-
ticipation from existing partners, including Matrix Partners;
M12, Microsoft’s Venture Fund; Next47; and Porsche SE.
The company says it will use the additional capital to
help accelerate its product roadmap, including the intro-
duction of mass production printers and new materials. The
capital will also be used to enhance the company’s global
expansion plans and strengthen its foothold among global
manufacturers.
“Markforged set out to change the pace of human inno-
vation by enabling engineers, inventors and manufacturers
to print industrial-grade
parts at a fraction of the
time and cost of tradi-
tional methods,” said
Greg Mark, CEO and
co-founder of Mark-
forged. “We’re very excited
to have Summit join us as
we help accelerate the next
industrial revolution with
broadly accessible and
reliable 3D printing.”
Prior to this round,
Deloitte named Mark-
forged the 10th fastest growing technology company in North
America, while Forbes named the company to its Next Billion
Dollar Startup list. The company has amassed a large installed
base among leading manufacturers and other types of busi-
nesses that benefit from additive capabilities. Markforged
shipped more than 2,500 industrial printers in 2018 and
serves customers in more than 50 countries. It has also filed
for 133 patents with 38 already issued.

“Canadian businesses face new challenges, but also new
opportunities presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution,”
said Charles Lavigne, CEO and Co-founder of LlamaZOO
Interactive. “By integrating technologies including AI, simu-
lation, IIoT, big data fusion and visualization, we can invent
new ways of digitally twinning the manufacturing process.
These digital twins will then be used to derive new meaning-
ful insights, enhance the learning process and accelerate not
only business outcomes but also educational outcomes for
    Canadian industries.”
