CINDY SHERMAN AT NATIONAL
PORTRAIT GALLERY
The National Portrait Gallery has
unveiled the first major UK retrospective
of leading contemporary artist,
Cindy Sherman.
First coming to prominence for her
iconic 70-photograph series, Untitled
Film Stills, 1977-80, in which she posed
in various costumes and was shot in
ways that referenced Hollywood, film
noir, B movie and art-house cinema,
Sherman has long explored the tension
between identity and façade.
Alongside these works, the exhibition
features her striking Cover Girl series,
which she completed on graduating
from art school, and works up to the
present day. It runs until September 15.
