and cinnamon. Female ferrets are
called “jills” and typically weigh 3
-5 pounds. Male ferrets are called
“hobs” and are slightly bigger than
females — hobs are usually 12-24
inches long, while jills are 12-16
inches. A baby ferret is called a
“kit.” No matter their age or gender,
these mammals are extremely
flexible. They can contort their
long, slim bodies to easily squeeze
into tight spaces (or escape your

them back in their cage!).
FUNNY HABITS
Ferrets enter a “dead sleep” where
their bodies don’t appear to move
for hours. But don’t worry, your ferret
is alive — you’ll be able to see it
breathing! (However, you’ll have to
look carefully, because it’ll breathe
very slowly in this condition.) Ferrets
are also hoarders by nature — they
stash everything, from their favorite
toys to food to your own belongings!
So if you can’t find your gloves or
socks, just look in a ferret’s cage:
