for. Challenge yourself. You
only get one life, and it’s short.
Make the most of it. I’ve just
not got time to worry about
whether this outfit makes my
bum look big or whatever.’ It’s
this ethos that meant, happily,
there was little hesitation when
WH approached Rochelle to
pose naked on this cover to
celebrate and normalise the
female form. Appreciating the
present moment is Rochelle
and Marvin’s motto, she tells
me. ‘Every New Year’s Eve, we
sit down and decide what we
want to do, and this year we
decided to focus on celebrating
the little wins. Because we’re
always on the hamster wheel of
life. Then you get to that point
where you’ve done the thing
that you’ve always wanted to
do, and it’s on to the next thing,
so you don’t stop to appreciate
it.’ As an example, she tells me
that she and Marvin were going
to watch the first episode of The
Hit List at home by themselves,
because it seemed like too
much fuss to get their friends
over, and they had to be up
early the next day because it
was Alaia’s birthday. ‘Then we
thought, you know what? We’ve
got our own show together.
Prime time, Saturday night,
BBC One. That’s something
to celebrate! So we got all our
friends together, got the show
up on a big screen, had a drink
and celebrated.’ She grins
proudly, and I think of that
embarrassed 18-year-old,
flyering outside Tesco.
‘We’re not silly, we know that
nothing lasts forever,’ she adds.
‘And one day, when we don’t
have all of this, I’m glad we’ll be
able to look back and say that
we enjoyed it, and that we knew
what we had. We celebrated in
the moment, and made a toast.’
And she’ll always have these
fabulous pictures to prove it.
‘I brave-face it a
lot – it’s my coping
mechanism’
