Pride Summit
West Hollywood, Aug. 8

Showing Pride
Billboard and THR hosted
their first Pride Summit,
bringing together LGBTQ+
voices in the entertain-
ment industry at the
1 Hotel West Hollywood
for a day of conversation.
The event began with
an emerging artist talk
where Daya (6) shared
that she was initially
discouraged from coming
out as bisexual. Digital
media stars including Gigi
Gorgeous (3) and Hannah
Hart (3) discussed
YouTube’s evolution and
taking on Hollywood
projects. LGBTQ+ music
execs including Terrorbird
Media’s Jess Caragliano
and Sony Music
Entertainment’s Wade
Leak (5) touched on com-
modifying queerness, and
LGBTQ+ headliners includ-
ing Tegan and Sara (1)
talked representation, with
other panels exploring
drag stars in music and
a songwriters sit-down.
The event culminated in a
packed Pose panel, with
castmem bers emphasizing
that representation needs
to happen on every level
of a production. “We need
to be in the forefront and
in the background as well,”
said Mj Rodriguez (2). “It
can’t just work one way.”

Tr i x i e M a t t e l performed
at the official afterparty
at The Peppermint Club.

Political Birds
“The idea of frenemies
uniting, when it was
first pitched to me, was
ingenious,” said Josh Gad
of the Angry Birds sequel,
which added even more
talent to its voice cast
with Leslie Jones (7),
Awkwafina and Sterling
K. Brown, among others.
The film’s plot of band-
ing together to take on
a shared enemy seems
especially timely in our
current political climate,
Gad explained to THR
at the Regency Village
premiere: “Overcoming
differences with people
you disagree with in order
to find a common ground
speaks to a lot of issues
we’re dealing with right
now.” — KIRSTEN CHUBA
