J ust t r yin g t o sh o p ove r h e re—w hy yo u got t a m ake it s o h ard?!

By RACHEL TORGERSON

First things first: Get your measurements.

figuring out your right size usually means busting out math you haven’t used since high school—or just holding your breath
and playing numbers roulette. So until retailers all over the world band together to standardize sizing, you’ve only
really got one option: become besties with your bust, waist, and hip measurements. They’ll help you unlock the key to size-
conversion success. So will we, with these charts that’ll allow you to find the right fit anywhere.

Let’s talk dresses
Frustrating, I know, but even in the U.S., an 8
from one store may be smaller or bigger than
an 8 from another. For the most part, though,
this table has you covered. Honestly, it’s a
total mystery how other countries get the num-
bers they use for their sizes, but the handy
equations at right help simplify things.

On to jeans
Jeans are easier, TG—most American brands
follow an inches measurement like 26, 30, and
36, which are close to the real circumference
of your waist. For those that use traditional dress
s i z i n g (i.e., n u m b e r s l i ke 2, 8, a n d 16), s e e b e l o w.
International shoppers can use the same equa-
tions to the left for denim sizes across the pond.

Shoooooes
You likely already know your American shoe size, but if you’ve
ever tried shopping from a fancy European label, all of a sudden
you could randomly be a 39 or 43. Honestly, what does that even
mean? This quick math has you covered, fren.
