This watercolor portrait of

a woman from Caála, Angola,

was featured on the cover of

Ilhas de Fogo (Fire Island),

one of several books on which

Corbel collaborated with writer

and friend Pedro Rosa Mendes,

featuring the people of Western

Africa. Corbel painted the

image on Arches hot-pressed

paper and added colored

pencil markings to the hair.
