Hip Hip Hurrah!
Hip Hip Hurrah! is a film about an artist colony at
Skagen located on a remote peninsula in Denmark at
end of the 19th century. Norwegian-Danish painter
Peder Severin Krøyer, who painted the famous art-
work called Hip Hip Hurrah! marries the beautiful
Marie, only to fall victim to a debilitating illness. In-
spired by the light, the sea, and the ease of living, the
painters create their best works, before their idyllic
life comes under threat.
Sea of Faith
Sea of Faith is a six-part documentary television
series, which was presented on BBC television in
- The series investigates the history of Christi-
anity in relation to its various critics over the years
including Freud, Marx, Nietzsche, and Danish phi-
losopher Søren Kierkegaard, who is often considered
the first existentialist.
Eames: The Architect & The Painter
Married couple Charles and Bernice Ray Eames
were influential American industrial designers who
helped steer the direction of modern architecture
and furniture design in the US in the early 20th
century. From their Eames Office in Los Angeles the
couple also indulged their creativity in film, photog-
raphy, and architecture.
The Mystery of Hammershøi
Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi is famous for his
moody portraits and interiors, many of which were
painted from his Copenhagen apartment where he
lived with his wife, Ida. Writer Michael Palin, enam-
ored with Hammershøi’s work, travels from Hayward
Gallery in London, to Amsterdam and Copenhagen
to learn more about the enigmatic painter.
