- Start paddling out, and as the
wave approaches you, you need to
begin the process. - Place both hands on the rails in
the same place where you would
place them for a pop-up, but this
time, grab hold of the rails. - Begin to push the board
downwards, sinking the nose of the
board under the water. - Keeping your arms straight begin
to lean forward, dropping your
head. This will help get the board
deeper under the water. - As you begin to go under with
the board take a deep breath. - Bring up your knee up to push
the tail of the board under the
water, and for an even deeper duck
dive use your foot to push on the
tail of the board. - Once you and the board are
fully submerged and the wave has
passed over you, begin to point the
nose up to the surface. - Hold on to your board and stay
strong, bringing your legs together. - As you reach the surface, take
a breath, open your eyes and get
ready to paddle and more likely
than not, do it all again. - The quicker you resume pad-
dling, the faster you’ll get back to
the line-up and also the easier it will
be to get under the next set.
