As the miniskirt made its debut, bridal trends

were quick to mirror it with shorter dresses and

the arrival of two-piece suits. Elizabeth Taylor

demonstrated the trend for colour by wearing a

canary-yellow creation on her fifth wedding day

and first (of two) to Richard Burton in 1964.

More was most certainly more during this

dramatically styled era. Bridal fashion took on a

grand and theatrical tone with the introduction

of shoulder pads, puffed sleeves, intricate

detailing, long trains and tiara mania after Lady

Diana Spencer’s wedding to Prince Charles.

When Dior showcased a dress with big sleeves

and a higher neckline, it sparked bridal fashion

frenzy. Both Princess Caroline of Monaco and

Lisa Najeeb Halaby (Queen Noor of Jordan)

commissioned Dior’s creative director Marc

Bohan to create floaty and nostalgic gowns.
