This season, tapestry – surely one of the oldest
traditions in the style book – was reworked for
the 21st-century catwalks. The delicate hand-
woven craftwork, glinting with threads of gold,
silver and silk, already adorns the interiors and
furniture of Britain’s smartest homes – and now
their inhabitants are wearing it, too. At Oscar de
la Renta, dense fabrics were worked into feminine
shapes with a plentiful patchwork of florals,
while Michael Kors’ feather-trimmed carpet coat
nailed retro sass and Etro’s hippy-luxe take on
the trend was rich yet relaxed. So, whether you’re
channelling Sixties-era George Harrison in
elegant William Morris, the ever-regal Rihanna
in embroidered gold Guo Pei at the Met Ball or
even Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, make sure
you’re cut from the same cloth.
