78 PRESTIGE J U LY 2019

Simple in Virtue,

Steadfast in Duty

The oldest Catholic girls’ school in Singapore
celebrated 165 years of tradition by gathering
alumnae, current and past staff, and sisters from
countries such as Thailand, Japan and Peru for a
gala dinner at Chijmes. The venue was an apt choice:
As the original site of the first Convent of the Holy
Infant Jesus (chij) school established in 1854, it is a
defining piece of ij’s storied history, not just as a
school but also as a home for abandoned children of
all religions, as it then housed an orphanage. The
charming ambience of the heritage building added
to this joyous gathering of the ij family, where guests
reminisced about their time in school and bonded
over shared experiences while tucking into the eight-
course repast catered by the Tung Lok group. The
night, which included handbell performances, choir
acts and more by current and past schoolgirls, also
saw some attendees going home with prizes won
from a lucky draw.
