Wiring branches
First I arranged the lowest branches to the
left, which was important for the balance
of the tree. All the foliage was fanned out,
so light reaches the inner branches.
The lowest and largest branches are wired first.
Afterwards thinner wires are put on thinner
branches. Wire is always applied to two connected
branches, and in the opposite direction of
each branch to achieve maximum strength.
When cutting away any thicker branches,
choose the option of turning them into jins
(dead branches stripped of their bark).
Or cut them off at the base. •••

A After several days letting the deadwood
dry up, the time has come for the final styling.

B Copper wire is much stronger than aluminium wire,
and is used to bend the thick branches because it holds better.

C The lower
branches are
arranged first.

branches.

E Once each
branch has been
wired, growth
pointing directly
downwards or
upwards is
removed, making
the appearance
more natural.
