Placing the ratchet strap
The strap is wound several times round an anchor
point so that it doesn’t slide. The other end is simply
hung over dead wood or the part protected by the
rubber-wire bandage so that it can slide freely.(^1) The ratchet strap is the best method for strong bending.
(^2) It is powerful enough to bend heavy trunks,
but is not sufficient if the wood is too stiff.
(^3) Accordingly, when we feel resistance, then we
must use another strap by changing the anchor points.
(^4) Thus by gradually
pulling in different
directions, the tree will
bend in the direction it
wants to go. And if it
doesn’t want to, all we
can do is to change
the project.
