Heavy bending
The first task was to save the
deadwood that was once the main
trunk, in order to bring the smaller,
second trunk closer, so that the foliage
matches the shape of the deadwood.
The main difficulty of this project was
the space of about 40 centimetres
that separated the small living trunk
from the deadwood, which called
for quite strong intervention and
the use of sizeable tools. I needed
to use a chain puller as well as a
hose clip – the one compensating
the other according to the bends
made during the work. •••

(^1) There is a wide gap between the main dead trunk and the second trunk.
A chain puller is needed to bring the two trunks closer to each other for the bending.
(^2) The bending is completed and the space filled. (^3) From another angle the two trunks accompany each other.

tree at the
wiring stage.
A fibrous wood
The Taiwanese juniper is extremely
fibrous and tolerates an incredible amount
of bending. This characteristic allows
the bonsai artist to be very creative
and to compensate for faults on some
trees by using a deliberate fissuring
technique on the trunks, as the tree
can recover in just a few months.
