SHOOTING FOR ALL

freezes the display. The Mode (M) button on
the back of the LRF is for toggling through the
settings, e.g. changing between metres (M)
and yards (Y).
One other cool bonus is the built-in
inclinometer, which constantly measures and
displays the angle of incline or decline, so you
can gauge how steep a shot you’re taking –
and aim low if necessary.
Two designs of LRF are available; one with
basic ‘iron sights’ to assist alignment, and one
with a small visible laser. A three second press
of the Mode button activates or deactivates
this. It comes pre-aligned to the distance/
measurement laser, so is by far the quickest
way to align the LRF to your cross hairs and
Point of Aim (POI). The laser housing helpfully
includes a short ‘trough-type’ iron sight, to help
locate the laser dot.

WORST CASE
The worst that can happen is that you have to
align the LRF to your dayscope’s POI manually;
for example, if it’s a bright sunny day, or the
laser’s not available. For this, you need a
vertical wooden peg with an offset horizontal
cross-piece – think of an inverted capital ‘L’.
Set up this peg at a known range from your
firing point (e.g. 25m) with clear space beyond
it, so you know when the LRF’s on target. Get
the peg in your scope cross hairs and roughly
align the LRF using the gun sights and
adjustment screws. Scan left and right with the
LRF until it measures the peg at 25m, then the
scope view will tell you to adjust left or right.
Repeat this procedure vertically with the
horizontal batten to adjust the vertical
collimation.
One very cool benefit of using the LRF with
an Infra-Red (IR) Night Vision (NV) scope, is
that the scope ‘sees’ the white flash of the
reflecting beam. This makes aligning the LRF

to your POI very easy, or if feeling lazy you
don’t even need to align them. Just direct the
LRF’s flashing light onto your target, read off
the range and then aim accordingly.
The LRF’s visible laser is also a visual aid. If
out hunting with a friend, you can use this as a
pointer to direct them to unseen targets.

DRAWBACKS
One slight hiccup from having the LRF on your
scope, albeit compact, is that this combination
might be too bulky to fit into your gunslip, but
it’s easily detached for transit. I found the laser/
POI alignment wasn’t unduly affected by
repeated remounting, but it’s easily realigned via
the windage and elevation screws, especially
with the help of the laser or an NV device.
