loved,” she told Entertainment Weekly in
- “Every show has to have that char-
acter full of teenage angst and drama.”
Those were in abundant supply in
Doherty’s portrayal of the Walsh family’s
daughter. Brenda started out as the good
girl next door who worried she wouldn’t fi t
in with the rich kids at West Beverly Hills
High. But after she befriended supercool
Kelly (Jennie Garth), Brenda’s inner spit-
fi re began to emerge. She started sneaking
into clubs, shopping at Hollywood’s chic
boutiques and doing her best to impress
sexy surfer Dylan (Luke Perry).
Needless to say, she succeeded. After
an awkward meet-cute in which Brenda
told him, “I like your butt... I mean, your
bike,” their fl irtation blossomed into a fi ery
romance—and that’s when the real drama
began. Brenda lost her virginity to Dylan,
leading to a pregnancy scare that made her
want to slow things down. But no matter
how many times the couple broke up, they
always found their way back together: Nei-
ther a summer in France nor her parents’
increasingly vocal disapproval could keep
Brenda away from Dylan for long.
