This year, 102 crewed charter yachts registered for the
MEDYS, totaling a cumulative length of over 3 kilometres and
making it yet again the largest international event of its kind
in terms of participating yachts and overall length of boats.


The President of the Greek Yachting Association, Mr.
Michael Skoulikidis, officially declared the opening of the
6th Mediterranean Yacht show on Saturday 4 May, in the
presence of the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr.
Fotis Kouvelis, the Regional Governor of the Peloponnese
Mr. Petros Tatoulis and the Mayor of Nafplion Mr. Dimitrios
Kostouros. Also in attendance were the Secretary General
of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Dionysis
Teboneras, the Secretary General of Ports, Port Policy and
Maritime Investments Mr. Christos Lambridis, the Chief of the
Hellenic Coast Vice Admiral Mr. Stamatios Raptis, the Chief
of Staff of the Hellenic Coast Guard Commander Mr. Spyridon
Kontomaris, the General Secretary of Tourism Mrs. Georgia
Karastathis and the Vice President of the Greek National
Tourism Organisation (GNTO) Mrs. Angeliki Chondromatidou.


The first day of the Yacht Show was celebrated in style at the
Palamidi Fortress where guests were invited to a welcome
reception, during which the musical quartet Fortissimo
undoubtedly stole the show. Addressing the attendees,
Mr. Michael Skoulikidis, President of the Greek Yachting
Association, stressed the rise of Greek yachting tourism in
a highly demanding and competitive international market.
In addition, he emphasized the exponential growth of the
MEDYS, which in just a few years has evolved into the largest
(in terms of registration numbers) international exhibition of
professional crewed yachts.


THE CHEFS’ COMPETITION


The highly anticipated Chefs’ Competition took place as part
of the show and the judging panel comprised of the twice
Michelin-starred Chef of Spondi, Aggelos Lantos, as well
as Chef Thanos Stasinos of Nikkei (Athens), Pacific (Monte
Carlo) and the Ritz Carlton (Valencia).
