GURU PUJA SPECIAL EDITION
annoyance is under the control of the Guru! Well,
your words are a direct indication that one should
be serious with respect to obedience to the Guru and
his commands. Moreover, if You have projected a
Guru to be having such a high status, in fact, the
highest status, higher even than yours, then... I
mean, we cannot ignore this 'Guru concept'
anymore! So, now, taking the subject of the Guru
seriously, first of all, please tell what does a Guru
do?
Lord Shiva:
Guru prasaadataha swaatm
anyaatmaaraama nireekshanaat
Samataa muktimaargena
svaatmagyaanam pravartate
By the grace of the Guru, a disciple attains bliss
inherent in the soul through Atma Gyan. Being
balanced, he treads the path of liberation and
embraces his ultimate destination.
Please pardon me for countering your point...
Lord, in today's age of internet, Google Baba is all in
all! I mean, FULL Gyan available! It can only give us
that Gyan also, which is essential to know God... I
mean, the Vedas, Upanishads, etc... everything is
available online, you see... Why need a Guru then?
Lord Shiva:
Yadyapyadheetaa nigamaahaa
shadangaa aagamaahaa priye
Adhyaatmaadini shaastraani
gyaanam naasti gurum vinaa
One may read all the four Vedas, memorise all
the six-branched Agamas, and mug up the entire
set of Shastras; however, without seeking refuge
of the True Guru, one cannot attain the
Knowledge of the Self.
Okay! That way! Understood! That means,
whatsoever may be the case, approaching a Guru is
indispensable! But, one more clause, Lord... There
are many-many people who say that they feel
satisfied and relish peace of mind by going on
pilgrimages. What's your view on this?
Only by the grace of the Guru can the Brahma
create, Vishnu protect, and Shiva dissolve this
creation. Their capability owes solely to the
benevolence of the Guru, without which they
have no worth!
Oh! Lord, are You sure of what You said just
now... I mean, such a big declaration! Your words
imply that a Guru is at a higher pedestal even than
You?
Lord Shiva:
Na guroradhikam na guroradhikam;
Na guroradhikam na guroradhikam
Shivashaasanataha shivashaasanataha;
Shivashaasanataha shivashaasanataha
Idameva shivamidameva shivam;
idameva shivamidameva shivam
Mama shaasanato mama shaasanato;
Mama shaasanato mama shaasanataha
(Yes indeed!) Nothing is above the Guru. Nothing
at all is above the Guru. This is the declaration of
Shiva. The Guru is the healer; he alone is the
supreme healer. This is my clear declaration.
I got it, Lord, got it! By making repetitions of your
declaration so many times, I have understood that
You really mean it. And not only mean it, rather,
your expression suggests that You will be annoyed
if one doesn't abide by this declaration. We can't
afford to annoy You ... we don't have the strength to
bear the brunt of your curse.
Lord Shiva:
Shiva krodhaad gurustraataa
gurukrodhaad shivo na hi
Tasmaatsarvaprayatnena
guroraagyaa na langhayet
If Shiva gets annoyed with a being, Guru can
save him. But, if Guru gets annoyed with a being,
then even Shiva cannot come to his rescue.
Therefore, by all means, one should ensure that
he doesn't disobey the commandments of the
Guru at any cost.
Oh! Lord, You mean to say that even your
