his first love for as many years as he can
remember, but he had always liked the scooters
and, as with his motorcycles, had a special soft
spot for the old British marque of Triumph.
REMINISCENCE
About five or six years ago he met up with
members of the Manchester Night Owls SC;
he got chatting with some of them and has
remained friends with them ever since, even
becoming a member of the club himself and
attending their events. With his formative
years on two wheels now fondly remembered
and reflecting upon his age, Bob decided he
would once again like to be the owner of a
scooter, so began looking for something that
would float his boat and what he could get
stuck into. His search eventually turned up a
Triumph Tigress – perfect, a British-built 250cc
scooter. It was located in the Glastonbury area
so a trip was organised, culminating in him
returning with the machine he wanted.
The scooter was complete and working, but
not perfect; so Bob decided to restore the
machine to exactly how he wanted it to be. As
he started the rebuild, a friend of his called
Simon also got one; they then purchased
another two and from the four machines have
made two very good examples.
It’s now some 10 months or so since the
rebuild was completed and Bob says he’s
over the moon with his little Harry Hooter and
that the family love it also – happy that he’s
on something a little more sedate than a big
thundering British classic motorcycle and
acting more like his age rather than still being
a Rebel Without a Cause!
At the back end of 2018, not long after
the build had been completed, Bob entered
and won the Best Classic Scooter trophy at a
Manchester Night Owls event. This was totally
unexpected and has made him very proud of
his little Harry Hooter.
