single shoot.
What I think we can safely conclude, though,
is that modestly tuned rifles are at no
disadvantage when put up against the state-of-
the-art, ultra-low recoil rifles, in that most testing
of environments, the Nomads HFT course.
TECHNICAL AIRGUN
custom stocks, and what is interesting is how
the rifles were modified internally.
The components and set-up of Stew and Perry’s
TXs are a carbon copy of those in my own TX200
which, in the standard stock, gives circa 4.5mm of
recoil, while Dan’s rifle houses Mk.2 TX
components, which will give much the same recoil
travel, albeit with a slightly faster compression
stroke courtesy of the stiffer Mk.2 spring.
CONCLUSIONS
It would be an understatement to say I’m
chuffed that Stew and Perry’s TX200s, with
internals modelled on my own TX, which has
been going strong for approaching five years,
took 1st and 3rd place against such stiff
competition from far more radically modified
rifles, but it would be a mistake to conclude that
the rifles are necessarily better on the basis of a 2020 VISION
Nomads will be hosting the 2020
UKAHFT National Recoil Championship
sometime around the end of May next
year (date soon to be confirmed) so, if
you fancy taking part, now is the time to
seek out your nearest HFT Club,
acquaint yourself will the rules and get
practising!
What you will find when you get here
is the warmest of welcomes, free hot
drinks, the club barbecue in full swing
from 8.30am (there’s a small charge for
food, which goes to a charity – this year,
we raised just under £250 for
Cancervive), and a course that is
designed specifically to frustrate and
delight in equal measure.
When the shoot starts, you could well
find yourself partnering a regional,
national or even world champion, and if
you do, you will find they give all the
encouragement and help they can.
That’s what makes recoil HFT so very
special - the people.
UKAHFT 2018 Recoil class series champion Gary Chillingworth is always a strong contender.
Nomads Stu Hill and 3rd placed Perry Broad try
to figure out how to shake hands and hand over
a trophy at the same time.
Sponsors Air Arms donated much-prized goodie
bags for the raffle, and we cannot thank them
enough.
