group and the Breast Care Ward
at Llanelli Hospital. In 2008 we
received a grant from the Lottery
to hold an exhibition of our work.
Unfortunately Hilary had to leave
us in 2008 but my friend Mair and
I decided to carry on the class,
inviting different tutors from the
area to teach us. We were very
fortunate to have Sue Nessbit, Jo
Miller and Marion Patterson close
by and we have benefited a great
deal from their expertise.

We received another grant in 2010 when we made a quilt to
raise money for Cancer Care in Singleton Hospital Swansea.
In 2012, we held a craft fair and in 2013 we held another
exhibition to celebrate ten years together. We still enjoy
learning new skills and by now we have nine members. Even
with a smaller number of members we were still able to hold
exhibitions in both 2015 and 2016.

Every year we try to contribute to a local charity by giving
articles to a local Christmas Fair to help raise funds and in
2018 we decided to devote a few months to making quilts
for Linus. We completed seventy five quilts and held an
exhibition and coffee morning so that the public could see
our work and hear about this very worthy cause. We were
very lucky to have a local quilting shop - A Good Yarn run
by Mel Richards, close by and we are very grateful to Mel
for all the help we received in choosing and purchasing the

materials for our projects. Needless to say the quilts were
gratefully received.

This year one of our members – Mair Davies won a 1st prize
for her quilted runner in the Royal Welsh Winter Show at
Builth Wells. Quite an achievement.

Over the years we have enjoyed many trips, visiting quilting
shows all over the country. We meet every Thursday
afternoon in Pontarddulais and, at the beginning of every
term, we pay £20 each towards expenses and the rent of the
room. Every Thursday our members take it in turns to make
a cup of tea and provide a cake for us when we have a break.
This costs us £2 and is certainly worth it!

We enjoy each others' company and have become very good
friends over the years.
