Cup. England are confident Nowell will
be fit ahead of the tournament.
But the 26-year-old is highly
unlikely to feature in England’s
first warm-up match against
Wales on August 11 – just 24
hours before the 31-man World
Cup squad is named.
Nowell (above) will continue his
rehabilitation at his club with the first
of England’s two camps in Treviso
ending on Friday.
HOME REST BEST FOR JACK
ENGLAND will take no chances on
Jack Nowell after the winger returned
from their training camp in Italy.
Nowell is back to complete a
routine medical assessment
after ankle surgery in June.
The Exeter star was injured
in last month’s Premiership final
defeat by Saracens.
And although a date for his
comeback was not given, the Chiefs
said he would be available for the World

2010: Team Sky formed
with mission statement to
win Tour de France within
five years. On their debut at
Le Tour, they made little
headway.
2011: Bradley Wiggins
crashes out with broken
collarbone and Rigoberto
Uran finishes as Sky’s best-
paced rider in 24th place, 43
minutes off the pace.
2012: The
big break
through –
Wiggins
powers to
the Yellow Jersey, ending a
century of virtual British
anonymity on Le Tour.
2013:
Chris Froome
makes it two
British wins
in as many
years, decorating his maiden
triumph with three stage
wins, including the iconic
climb of Mount Ventoux.
2014: The only blank year
since 2011 – Froome retires
hurt on stage five and
Geraint Thomas is Sky’s
highest-placed finish down in
22nd place. Vincenzo Nibali
wins the race.
2015:
Froome
again,
holding off
Nairo
Quintana’s spirited rally on
the Alpe d’Huez to cling on
for the maillot jaune with a
minute to spare.
2016: A
third Yellow
Jersey for
Va Va
Froome,
featuring his daredevil
‘Superman’ descent into
Bagneres-de-Luchon.
2017:
Froome
makes it
four Tour
crowns –
despite not winning a
single stage of the race,
although he was
desperately close in the
time trial around
Marseille.
2018:
Below
the
radar,
Thomas
surges to his first Tour
de France crown, with
memorable back-to-back
mountain stage wins at La
Rosiere and Alpe d’Huez.
2019: The British
stranglehold is broken, but
Brailsford’s influence
endures – Egan Bernal
christens Team Ineos with
Colombia’s first Tour winner.

FORMULA ONE FALLOUT FROM HOCKENHEIM
bumped up two places, to continue.
“Okay, Lewis box, box for new soft
tyres,” said the Briton’s race
engineer Pete Bonnington on lap
- “Retire the car,” Hamilton
replied. “Negative, Lewis, negative,”
said Bonnington. “There are
always opportunities.”
Hamilton was promoted
after Alfa Romeo drivers
Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio
Giovinazzi were later hit with
time penalties for a technical
infringement. That earned him two
points to extend his championship
lead to 41 points.
Max Verstappen won the race.
LEWIS: I WANTED OUT
BY PHIL DUNCAN
LEWIS HAMILTON begged
Mercedes to retire him from
Sunday’s chaotic German Grand
Prix.
In a radio message which wasn’t
aired during the incident-
packed race, Hamilton
(right) urged his team to
pull him out of the race with
11 laps remaining.
After crashing for a second
time at Hockenheim, he was about
to drop to last ahead of a sixth
pit-stop when he made the call. But
Mercedes instructed Hamilton, who
