BABY TIME!
HELEN SCHÖER
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
I
’m so excited! I woke up this
morning to the news that a friend
is at the hospital being induced,
so today will be the day her baby
arrives. It’s difficult not to bombard her
with whatsapps demanding updates,
but my thoughts keep drifting to her.
I wonder how she is coping and if
her little girl has been born yet and
if her plan to go natural worked out,
or if things ended with a c-section.
Whatever the case, she is on the verge
of officially being a mother and I’m
sending all my love vibes her way. I
think love travels faster through the
cold winter air. I keep checking my
phone to see if there is any news. Part
of me also wants to send all kinds of
last-minute advice... on skin to skin,
and making the most of the golden
hour, and what a good latch looks like,
and so on and so on. I am the editor of
a baby magazine, after all! But then I
catch myself. As her friend all I really
want to say is ‘love your baby and
everything will fall into place’.
In this issue we have an article by
Marina Petropulos, the parenting
expert and author that your parents
most likely relied on. Marina just
launched a new edition of her book
and I love her sensible and loving
approach to parenting. It has become
rather politically incorrect to state that
children are the meaning of life, but
the thing is, when you have them, you
know this to be true in your bones.
In the first chapter Marina gives a
bit of an overview of parenting trends
over the decades and some of the crazy
things that were once preached. Here
at Your Baby we believe that love never
goes out of fashion. If your intentions
are good and loving, there is very little
that can go wrong.
Okay, time to check my phone
again...
Warm winter hugs
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors:
LITTLE KAMOGELO MOGALE couldn’t
have asked for a better birthday present!
This little cherub, from Roodeport in
Gauteng, turned one on May 30. Little did
he, or his parents, know that his warm smile
had won hearts and he was chosen to be
the winner of Your Baby magazine’s Cover
Baby Competition 2019!
His mother, Xolile Dube, producer and
writer for Imaginative Dreams, says Kamo is
just pure joy.
“He is such a good boy. He is not a cry
baby, and nor does he throw tantrums, at
least not yet. He is very playful and loves his
toys, but he is very choosy when it comes to
his toys. They have to be musical. If there is
no sound coming out, no matter how pretty
or how much bling the toy has, he just won’t
play with it,” says Xolile.
An only child, Kamo is still breastfeeding
even though he takes the bottle as well.
“He also loves his noodles and chicken
breasts,” adds Xolile.
Thank you to the sponsors of our Cover
Baby Competition. Kamogelo wins R15 000
worth of prizes: A Baby City gift voucher to
the value of R5 000, an Epi-Max Baby &
Junior hamper worth R1 000 plus R4 000 in
cash, as well as a shopping voucher to the
value of R5 000 from Calpol.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER OF
OUR 2019 COVER BABY COMPETITION!
