AUTOCULT
CORGI MODELS
Tales of the unexpected
BOTH MOTORSPORT ENTHUSIASTS and those who collect on an
early automotive theme will be interested to learn that
AutoCult has modelled the Ford Model A that Juan Manuel
Fangio borrowed from a local taxi driver in order to compete
in his first ever race – the 1934 Argentinian Benitio Juarez.
Despite a number of (unagreed with owner) modifications to
the car, Fangio failed to finish the race due to engine failure.
Had it not been for the fact that he would go on to become one of the greatest racing drivers
of all time, the car would no doubt would have been long forgotten, but instead it is today
exhibited in the museum ‘Museo Juan-Manuel Fangio’ in Buenos Aires.
Equally fascinating is AutoCult’s replica of the little-known Israeli-built Sabra Sport Roadster (Ref. ATC 05027).
The Sabra Sport Roadster was the work of Itzhak Shubinski, who in 1957 founded the Autocars Company Ltd. Shubinski entered
into an agreement with the British car manufacturer Reliant. Components were shipped over from the UK and assembled in
Autocar’s factory in Haifa. A prototype was exhibited at the 1961 New York Auto Show and the little roadster was put into
production in the summer of the same year. Sadly, however,
it never really took off and by 1968, after only 171 cars had
rolled off the line, all further production ceased. Priced at £93.99.
These handbuilt resin models are priced at £93.99 each,
and, as with all AutoCult models, production has been limited
to 333 pieces.
