latest versions of the existing
V W range, the new 181 and
not only the 914 but the 911
as well; a rare and not to be
repeated occurrence.
The 914 design comprised of
a mid-engined (the first built in
Germany in series production),
two seat, sports car, with Targa
style roll bar complete with
removable roof centre section
and pop-up headlights. The
all new design drew heavily
on existing mechanical parts
from both companies and was
introduced in two air-cooled
engine versions. The 914/4
having the 1.7l four cylinder

Vertriebsgesellschaft mbh, (the
V W-Porsche Sales Company)
based in Ludwigsburg, to the
north of Stuttgart. This
company represented the
joint interests of Dr. Ing.
h.c. F. Porsche AG and
Volkswagenwerk AG and
secured the launch of 914
production. All the publicity
material carried the
company’s logo and address,
with the earliest brochures
following a quasi V W A4
portrait format. Very soon
landscape format became
the norm for flyers, with
brochures developing into
lavish, glossy publications
matching the Porsche 911
brochures in style and format.

publicity photographs.
Perhaps the most
interesting of all, though, was
V W's own general model range
brochure 152.958.00, printed in

September 1969, to introduce
the 1970 model year range –
no doubt in time for the IA A.
