At times

unforgivably
hateful, but he’s

Shared grief: Both

Leading man Aidan Turner didn’t have
any horse-riding experience before
landing the role of Ross Poldark – despite
telling producers otherwise! ‘For my very
first scene, I had to gallop across the cliffs to
Trenwith,’ he laughs. ‘I was really nervous!’

When filming finished on the fifth
and final series, the cast and crew
celebrated by going out on the town in
Bristol, where they shoot most of the
drama’s interior scenes. ‘We went to a
bar and got drunk and had lots of tears
and hugs – and shots!’ says Luke.

Don’t be fooled: Some of the swords used
in fight scenes are actually made from
rubber! ‘They start to wobble – you just have
to commit and hope everything will be fine!’
laughs Aidan.

Gabriella Wilde and Luke Norris (Caroline and
Dwight Enys) brought their two-year-olds
on set and the kids even enjoyed a play date!
‘When we were filming near Gabriella’s house
in Somerset, I took my daughter for a play date
with her son,’ says Luke. ‘She had a lovely time!’

As it’s the final series, the cast have
been getting misty-eyed about the last-ever
words they say on the show. ‘“Do you not think
that’s a thought extreme?” was my last line,’ says
Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays Demelza Poldark.

This series, Dwight’s lecture, the Drury Lane
theatre foyer and George’s knighthood
were filmed at Leigh Court, near Bristol. But if
you look closely, its frontage has also been CGI’d
to turn it into some of the show’s stately homes!
