rich? She seems to
spend most of her time riding
horses or drinking wine, yet she’s
always got thousands of pounds
up her designer sleeve.
Not content with owning half
the houses in the village and
having a hefty stake in the vet
practice, this week she sidles up to
Jai and offers to buy the factory.
We’re assuming she has no plan to
don a hairnet and pack truffles.
Jai certainly needs a fairy
godmother, though. Sharma
& Sharma is a charred wreckfollowing last week’s blaze. The
factory workers are grieving for
the resident who lost their life,
but they’re also very keen to know
what’s happening to
their jobs now.
‘Their livelihoods
are on the line and the
insurance is a big
worry for Jai because
the fire alarm was
turned off,’ says Chris
Bisson, who plays the
factory boss. ‘If there was no
payout, the implications would be
serious, because the factory is just
a shell – they need to start again
and replace all the equipment.’Jai’s stress levels rocket as he
and Priya suspect that Rishi and
Manpreet started the blaze for
an insurance scam. The pressure
mounts when he sees
the terms of the loan
agreement that Rishi
has previously taken
out with Kim.
Raging at his
father in front of
Manpreet, Jai angrily
points out that there
would have been no financial hole
to fill if he hadn’t spent a fortune
paying off his wife’s debts.
‘Rishi has been willing to ruin
the family business for the sake ofa younger woman; that’s how Jai
sees it,’ explains Chris.
Over at Home Farm, Kim
makes her move and offers to buy
the factory. Meanwhile, back at
Holdgate, a guilt-ridden Manpreet
is caught trying to do a runner by
Jai and Priya, who urge her to stay
put and support their dad.
Later, Jai’s worst fears are
confirmed when the insurance
company send him an email,
querying the fact that the fire
alarm was switched off.
Short of ideas on how to save
the business, he secretly meets
with Kim to discuss the situation.
