Woody Harrelson stars in a deliciously
crazy horror comedy that plays like an
American version of Shaun of the Dead.
He teams up with Jesse Eisenberg as a
pair of lonely layabouts who are trying
to survive an America overrun by
zombies. Along the corpse-strewn
road, the gun-toting Harrelson and
wussie Eisenberg meet a pair of con
girls (Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin).
Sometimes hilarious, often hysterical,
this is always great fun. 2009, 15, 88MIN

Film4 HD, 2.40pm/
Film4+1, 3.40pm 4
Sex ●●● Violence ●●● Language ●●●

An enchanting animated adventure
comedy featuring a cute, laid-back
sense of humour, a surprisingly gripping
story and some fantastic visuals which
recreate the mythical Viking era in which
(according to the book by Cressida
Cowell) dragons roamed the landscape.
Jay Baruchel provides the voice of the
film’s teenage hero Hiccup, who secretly
befriends a dragon whom he thinks he
has wounded. 2010, PG, 98MIN

FANTASY ADVENTURE

Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows: Part I
ITV HD, 4pm/ITV+1, 5pm 4
Sex ●●● Violence ●●● Language ●●●

With Voldemort in the ascendant, Harry,
Ron and Hermione find themselves
isolated from their allies – and each
other – in the penultimate episode of
the epic Harry Potter film saga, JK
Rowling’s sprawling final book having
been cannily split in two. The mood is
dark and this is the slowest-moving
Potter movie to date, but it does provide
a sturdy springboard for the superb
Deathly Hallows: Part II. 2010, 12, 146MIN

FANTASY COMEDY

Groundhog Day
Paramount HD, 6.50pm 5
Sex ●●● Violence ●●● Language ●●●

Aside from boasting one of the most
original comedy concepts of the 1990s

  • a cynical TV weatherman gets stranded
in a backwoods town, reliving the same
day over and over and over again – this
superb comic fantasy fairly crackles with
    wit. Director Harold Ramis meticulously
sets up each scene in order to get the
    maximum humorous pay-off later on.
As the main character, Bill Murray delivers
one of the finest performances of his
    career. 1993, PG, 103MIN

As an up-and-coming singer-songwriter, Lady Gaga strips back the
full-on make-up and delivers a nakedly real performance opposite
Bradley Cooper, who plays a hard-drinking, fading country-rock star
in this new but rousingly old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll version of the
bittersweet, previously thrice-filmed showbiz saga. Cooper’s directing
debut, the film picked up eight Oscar nominations and won the award
for Best Original Song. Also Sunday-Friday.2018, 15, 136 MIN

Kevin Costner is in his element as a gruff
school sports coach who leads a bunch
of cross-country running underdogs to
triumph in this stirring sports drama based
on a true story. Niki Caro, who directed
2002’s Whale Rider, isn’t afraid to tread
a conventional path in her storytelling,
but her deep sympathy for her subjects
and deft film-making ensure that you will
have a lump in your throat and tears in
your eyes by the end. 2015, PG, 129MIN,

ROMANTIC COMEDY

Man Up
BBC1 HD, 10.20pm/
BBC1+1, 11.20pm (regions vary) 4
Sex ●●● Violence ●●● Language ●●●

Spinning out its screwball premise with
dexterity and wit, this hugely engaging
British romcom is a winner all the way
as Simon Pegg’s emotionally bruised
divorcee mistakes Lake Bell’s snarky
cynic for his blind date. The film barrels
along around a refreshingly un-touristy
London with a giddy momentum that is
exhilarating, but Pegg and Bell ensure
their characters remain both credible
and likeable. 2015, 15, 88MIN
