We speak to an agency carving out
a niche by getting the best from
Squarespace and Shopify
NOUGHTS
& ONES

The appeal of platforms such as
Squarespace, Wix and Shopify is
that anyone can use them to get a good-
looking site up and running. But if you
want something special, Bristol-based
Noughts & Ones (noughtsandones.com) is
ready to make them sing through clever
coding and beautiful design. Describing
themselves as developer guns for hire,
they started out in 2014 as Hive Social
and last year assumed their current
identity in a major rebrand. We spoke to
(l-r) Joe Cory, front-end developer; Tom
Locke, founding director; and Adam
Matheson, front-end developer; to
discover what makes the agency tick.
Hi there! Can you tell us a bit about
yourselves?
TL: Hello! Noughts & Ones is a creative
development agency specialising in
custom front-end development on CMS
platforms like Squarespace and Shopify.
The agency actually started life as my
freelance company – Hive Social – in
2014, which focused on social media and
digital marketing services. I was familiar
with Squarespace through my last
agency position and used the platform
for my own site when I started out as a
freelancer. Within three or four months,
I wasn’t making much progress getting
social media and digital marketing
clients and was having loads of
conversations about Squarespace, so I
started pursuing that as a specialism.
