“The tooth fairy came twice in
one month and very generously
left R100 and then R50. Little miss
was not impressed the second
time around. All sorts of questions
asked.” Lynn Govender
“My two daughters are blind, so I always give them coins
because they make a better noise than paper! The more
coins, the happier they are despite their value. My little one
takes some of her coins to church on Sundays to throw in for
collection. I often wonder what people think when they count
five 20c pieces, but it comes from her heart so I think the Lord is
pleased despite what people may think!” Elouise Scheepers

“No
more than
R2, our
tooth fairy
is stingy.”

“I have cute
little boxes that
contain the first hair
and teeth. They leave
them under the pillow
and the tooth fairy
takes them and she
leaves 10 to 20pula.”

heart-warming responses.
“Very
first tooth was
R100, R50 for this
last one as it had a little
hole so it depreciated in value
and that was all the cash she
had on her at the time.
She keeps all of them
hidden in a safe
place.” Jackie

How much does your
tooth fairy pay?
(And what does she do with the teeth?)
“My 10-year-old
believed in the
tooth fairy until
recently when
she caught
Dad putting the
money under her
pillow.”

“I’m a
grade 1 teacher,
so there are plenty teeth
falling out around me. I’ve been
told the going rate for teeth these
days is anything between R20 and R200
per tooth! Children that age barely know
the value of that much money. I think the
excitement of finding the money in place of
the tooth is what the whole thing is about.
Giving large amounts of money gives little
children the wrong idea of the value of
things in their life, and the correct use
of money. Anything between R10
and R20 a tooth seems fair in
my opinion.”

“Our little one
now banks two
or three teeth together
to get a bigger present
from the tooth fairy. Our
tooth fairy is handed
instructions and a
shopping list.”^

“I’m an oral
hygienist and tell
kids they must tell
their parents to
WhatsApp
the tooth mouse so he
knows about the VAT
increase so they can
get more money.”
