Common Ground at Gallery Diferent
shows the work of two painters – Andrew
Roberts and Benjamin Hope – both of
whom paint en plein air, in all weathers
and locations – from across the UK and
Europe – trying to capture the transient
moment. Describing himself as ‘an artist
who paints the day over the subject,
prioritising mood over detail,’ Andrew’s
textured and spontaneous work would
be diicult to achieve back in a studio as
his application of paint is instinctive and
reactive.
Ben’s work will be well known to The
Artist readers from his articles in the
magazine. He is also motivated by
painting on-the spot, often taking a long
time inding the exact moment. ‘Painting
from life is my modus operandi,’ he says.
‘I love the immediacy, the time pressure
and the liveliness of the result’. Both artists
are motivated by sharing their experience
with the viewer – often abstracting the
detail to achieve mood and atmosphere.
Common Ground will be at Gallery
Diferent from November 8 to 16.
Open daily, from 11am until 6pm;
until 8pm on Thursday November 14.
