Tip

Notice how the bales are positioned to

lead the eye into the painting and that

the lights in the mid-distant ield,

together with the lit gable end,

reinforce the lead in. I also decided to

move the tall tree in the centre of the

painting closer to the house, which

also enhances the focal point

Lastly I added highlights using even lighter, warm, light yellows, yellow/greens and blue/greys,

inal details and the small touches which will take the viewer’s eye through the painting to the

cottage, my focal point

u STAGE FIVE
This was mostly a continuation of stage four,
although I introduced the irst real darks and
lights. For the shadows in the base of the
bales and hedges I used a dark purple/grey.
For the mid-distant ield, a warm light yellow/
green was selected. For the foreground ield,
I used two warm light yellows
