THE HIGH

POINT

The obvious high point of Mayo’s 2019
so far was winning the Allianz League

  • a welcome salve to the many wounds
    they’ve received at Headquarters. In
terms of championship, they have had
less to hang their hats on. Nonetheless,
    there was something encouraging about
the way they beat Down in Newry – a
sure sign that the famous heart still
    beats.

THE

LOW POINT

Entertaining Roscommon at Elverys
MacHale Park in the Connacht
semi-final, as league champions,
could only have prompted one
credible script beforehand.
Roscommon evidently didn’t
read it. It was 33 years since the
Rossies had beaten Mayo there
in the championship. As ways of
bursting bubbles go, this was about
as brutal as it gets for Mayo.

CONNACHT QUARTER-FINAL:

MAYO 1-22 NEW YORK 0-4

CONNACHT SEMI-FINAL:

ROSCOMMON 2-12 MAYO 0-17

QUALIFIER ROUND 2:

MAYO 1-16 DOWN 1-11
