Carrie Wild
C
arrie Wild is based in Jackson
Hole, Wyoming, where she enjoys
photographing and observing the
wildlife that appears in her work. After visiting
for a summer, she fell in love with the Greater
Yellowstone Ecosystem and decided that there
was no better place to be to realize her vision.
Surrounded by the inspiration of wildlife,
horses and wide-open spaces, she paints in
both her home studio at the edge of Grand
Teton National Park and in her public studio
within Gallery Wild.
Raised on a small horse farm in Southern
Michigan, she learned to respect, appreciate
and love animals from a young age. She also
developed a passion for art at an early age,
and experimented with different dry mediumsincluding graphite, charcoal, colored pencil
and soft pastel. Through her knowledge of
horses and wildlife she developed a strong
drawing technique focusing on the anatomy
and characteristics of each subject. As a teen
Wild bought her first camera and began taking
photographs of her subjects as a foundation for
her artistic vision. She uses her photography for
inspiration as well as an excuse to spend more
time in the field with the animals she loves.
“Inspiration for my work starts with my love
and intrigue for wildlife and wild, wide-open
places that I find surrounding my home,” she
says. “I wanted to find a way to communicate
my time and emotional connection to the wild
and outdoors using color. The natural world is
very difficult to replicate in a two-dimensionalform. I found that dramatic color and shapes
could transcend the limitations of the canvas
to bring back the emotion of my personal
experiences.”
Wild will exhibit her work in the Great Falls,
Montana, event Out West Art Show & Sale in
