s soon as it took office in 2014, the NDA Government initiated several steps to evolve a Na-
tional Education Policy (NEP). Throughout its Five year term, it could not announce the NEP. Now,
it has come to power for the second consecutive term. The outgoing HRD Minister had stated that
the NEP would be released in the first week of June 2019. The Draft National Education Policy, 2019
(DNEP) although signed on 15th December 2018, was released on the 1st June 2019. The reason for
not releasing it immediately was not explained. The 484-page document was placed in public domain
in Hindi and English, and the people were asked to respond in 30 days.
