“When I was younger, I always thought I was
going to work in snowboarding! Which is so
funny, because I haven’t snowboarded in about
13 years (laughs). As much as I was into riding,
I was also really into the industry side and selling
snowboards. I worked at a shop selling them
and I thought, ‘This is my world.’”THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE
WAS GIVEN TO ME BY MY MOM
“I was nervous to quit a job because they
wouldn’t let me have weekends off to tour,
and my mom was like, ‘You don’t owe anyone
anything – just stay true to yourself and make
yourself happy.’ She’s a social worker, which
is, like, not a punk (laughs), so for her to say
something that like had a huge impact.”THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
MAKES ME FEEL POSITIVE
“I had moved with my family down from Canada
to the States and I didn’t have any friends. It
was so weird being this Canadian in Nashville,
Tennessee. I remember seeing The Shawshank
Redemption, and I felt so akin to this person
trying to break out of prison – but I found it
such a positive and uplifting thing. This guy still
made it out of jail and was stoked, and built this
community in this super-harsh place, and it’s like,
‘If he can do that, then I can do anything.’”I don’t buy stuff
from the Internet
“Maybe this might be because I’m someone
from the ’90s, but I don’t really order things
off the internet. We get to travel the world on
tour and I love to go into shops, and I’m really
into that bricks-and-mortar style of retail.
I’m really into motorcycling, so I’m always
looking for these little boutique motorcycle
stores, and then nine times out of 10 the
person who owns them will be the nicest
person you’ve ever met and you’re all hanging
out. You don’t really find that online...”I nearly died after
crashing my bike in
the desert IN MEXICO
“I crashed super-bad when I was riding dirt
bikes in Mexico. I really messed up my leg and
I was limping for half a year (laughs). Everyone
was like, ‘The secret to riding in the desert is to
go as fast as you can,’ and I’m like, ‘Sure.’ I got
blasted off a rock that was hiding underneath
the sand and I was just going too fast to correct
myself – but live and learn! The thing with the
desert – unless you’re a millionaire and you can
get a helicopter to come and grab you – is that
you also have to get yourself out. So after
I crashed, I still had to ride 10 miles with a guy
to go somewhere where we could get picked
up. I kept crashing after that, which was the
hardest part of it, and I thought I was going to
die. But now nothing can stop me!”My biggest regret is...
absolutely nothing
“I literally have no regrets. I’m not trying
to be cool, but I don’t actually believe
in living your life that way. I believe so
much in everything happening for a reason.
Every choice we make selects where we
