The New Class

many ways, the first day on
set for an actor is a lot like the
first day of school. There are
the nerves, the unknowns, the
nonstop schedule, the strange faces in
the hallways, the looming expectations
and the piled-on pressure. But, just like
with the first day of school, there can be
plenty of excitement, too.
Just consider Anna Cathcart’s very
first time on the Descendants 2 set back
in 2016. “I was only supposed to be there
to try on my wardrobe and test out my
hair and makeup,” says Anna, whose
character, Dizzy Tremaine, is the daugh-
ter of Cinderella’s evil stepsister, Drizella
Tremaine. “But Kenny [Ortega, the mov-
ie’s director and choreographer] took my
hand and introduced me to everyone—
people that I’ve looked up to for so long, like Dove [Cameron]
and Sofia [Carson]. Honestly, I was starstruck.”
Now imagine newcomer Jadah Marie’s jitters last year
when the Disney Channel diehard (she’s obsessed with Liv
and Maddie) and Descendants superfan (she owns several
store-bought costumes from the series) strode into the dance
rehearsal studio after being cast in Descendants 3 as Celia, the
daughter of Dr. Facilier from The Princess and The Frog.
“Everyone was just hanging out, and Kenny thought it
would be funny if I snuck up behind Dove and scared her,”
Jadah, 14, recalls. “Cameron [Boyce] almost blew my cover,
but I successfully spooked her. Dove gave me a big hug, then
we just hung out. The whole time I was thinking, ‘I cannot
believe I’m sitting next to Dove Cameron right now.’”
Brenna D’Amico was in for just as big of a surprise on her
first day of Descendants in 2014 when she found out that
playing Jane, the daughter of the Fairy Godmother from
Cinderella, meant she had to nail some seriously challenging
choreography on top of learning her lines.
“Thirty minutes after I got to my hotel, I got a call from
production and they’re like, ‘We’re going to pick you up
at 6 a.m. for dance rehearsals,’” Brenna, 18, recalls. “I had
no idea there was dancing involved,
because my audition only required me
to act and sing. All I packed were jeans,
so I had to go out and buy something to
dance in.”
Now fixtures in the star-studded
Descendants family, the trio’s grown
tight. And after navigating the first
nerve-wracking days on set, Anna, Jadah
and Brenna can look back on those early
memories and laugh. And the best part?
With Descendants 3 dropping on Aug. 2
on Disney Channel, the fun is only just
getting started...
FASHION FORWARD
Aside from their collective acting
chops—which are stellar—Anna, Jadah
and Brenna are each also succinctly
stylish. That’s not to say their personal
taste is all the same, though: When it
comes to fashion, each girl boasts a unique aesthetic.
Anna leans into a preppy vibe and loves a retro moment.
Open up the Canadian’s closet and you’ll see collared shirts,
high socks and A-line skirts aplenty. But she also loves to
keep it casual. When the 16-year-old showed up to our
photo shoot in downtown Los Angeles, mom and sister
Sara in tow, she looked Cali chic in light wash denim, a white
T-shirt and fresh Air Force Ones.
A self-proclaimed shy girl, Anna sees fashion as a great
way for her to express herself. “I’m always looking for things
that will reflect my personality,” she spills. “I want to show
people who I am through what I wear.”
As for Jadah, who’s from outside of Los Angeles, she
loves a good trend (think: two-piece sets and pompom
accessories). Her current fave? Fanny packs. She rocked a
dusty lilac denim set (not unlike the all-lavender look she
wears in this story) to Disney Channel’s FanFest back in April
and topped it off with a holographic blush-hued bitty belt
bag she bought in Budapest.
“I just love accessorizing. I always have to have on rings,
necklaces and earrings because I feel like they’re the cherry
