The two of you were together for a few
months...but mutually decided to downshift
your status to “just friends.”
KEEP IT GOING But only if you really
friends. As in, you can call him up to see a are just
movie whenever the urge hits—and he knows
he can count on you for a tennis match any
time. As long as you aren’t secretly freaking
about who he’s dating and what he’s doing
when he’s not with you, great.
LET IT FADE Breaking up clean is hard to do—
that’s why so many couples try to convince
themselves they can stay close after calling
it quits. But if your feelings for him haven’t
fully faded, faking friendship isn’t the way to
go—especially once he starts seeing someone
else. If this “friendship” is really you holding
out hope he’ll come back to you, be honest
with him. And if he’s truly ready to move on,
it’s time for you to do that, too.
You play keyboard in a band and have
struck a nice chord with the bass guitar
guy—who happens to be your bro’s BFF.
KEEP IT GOING Your relationship with the
bass boy is strictly sib-like. He’s got your back
when you want to give singing lead a try, and
you always think of him as your other brother.
LET IT FADE Your bro’s fuming. It’s a bummer
that you all just can’t get along, but it’s best
to leave his friend as just that—his. It’ll keep
things cool at home (and keep things rocking
in the band, too).
You spent the summer at your dad’s (six states
away) and haven’t seen your BGF in person in
three months. Suddenly, he’s two inches taller,
tan and totally gorgeous. Whoa.^
KEEP IT GOING You’ve been buddies for so long
you’re practically related. And you just don’t see
yourself hooking up with a guy who has seen you
smear toothpaste on your zits—no matter how
newly hot he is.
LET IT FADE^ If your heart’s doing double-time
whenever he looks your way, it’s doubtful you can
keep up the friendship facade. Taking your rela
tionship to the next level is a risk, but some of the
best love stories stem from friendships. Sigh...
