e of31, Carrie is stepping into the spotlight
ongside Number Ten’s newest occupant,
-year-old Boris.
Thedaughter of journalist Matthew Symonds,
o co-founded The Independent, and Josephine
cAffee, one of the paper’s lawyers, Carrie grew
surrounded by talk of press and politics.
Shegained a first-class degree in art history
andtheatre studies at Warwick University, but
startedworking as a press officer for the Tories,
eventually becoming communications director at
Conservative campaign headquarters.
GETTING HIS VOTE
It is thought she first met Boris while working on
his successful campaign to be re-elected Mayor of
London in 2012.
It is uncertain when they got together, but
rumours began circulating at the end of his
marriage to second wife Marina Wheeler, with
whom he has four children. The couple split last
year, but are still legally married.
