Gordon Composites split limbs, burns 380-grain bolts downrange at its namesake 425 fps.
With comfort and control in mind, Barnett outfitted the new rig with an AVI TPE-wrapped
cheekpiece, buttplate, pistol grip and foregrip, as well as a Retractable Underarm Counter-
balance Support (RUCS). The hinged cheekpiece can be opened to mount a crank cocking
device, while the step-through riser reduces overall length for easier cocking with a rope.

Barnett HyperGhost 425
TECHNICAL
CROSSBOW TEST
The HyperGhost 425 uses Bar-
nett’s 1818 Quad Parallel Split Limbs,
which measure 11 inches long and
are made with Gordon Composites.
Home to anti-vibration technology,
the limbs work with a string stop on
either side of the rail to reduce the
425’s shot noise. Structural features
on the riser and an aluminum limb
cap anchor and control the limbs for
a precise alignment with the riser,
which is critical for accuracy. The
limbs and riser sport Mossy Oak
Original Treestand camo.
Dual cams ride on twin bush-
ings and tool-steel axles designed
to withstand the forces of draw and
shot while reducing friction for effi-
cient operation. Barnett uses BCY’s
DF 97 base material for the string
with a BCY center serving and 3D
Dyneema end servings. The cables
use the same base material with
braided 3D Dyneema servings.
Multi-Purpose Bridge
A CNC-machined aluminum rail
spans from the riser to the trigger-
housing mount just in front of the
rope-cocker groove. The front of the
rail has a slot that accepts the cables/
cable slide and anchors the crossbow
via a single bolt. A section of Picat-
inny rail built into the flight rail’s
underside anchors the foregrip and
other accessories. Two more Picatin-
ny rails are mounted near the riser
connection. The lightweight, vented
flight rail also features low-friction
strips on either side of the rail to
guide the cocking hooks.
Control Center
The 425’s lightweight stock reach-
es from the front of the oversized
trigger guard to the buttpad and is
made of glass-filled nylon via an
injection-molding process. Barnett
uses a soft-feel proprietary blend of
Anti Vibration Isolation thermoplas-
tic elastomer (AVI TPE) material to

The 425, the focus of this review,
is home to a number of Barnett in-
novations, including TriggerTech
Frictionless Release Technology, a
step-through riser, CNC-machined
aluminum flight track, pass-through
foregrip, anti-vibration-technology
limbs and more. Much more.
Platform Power
Barnett’s crossbow assembly pro-
vides the 425’s blazing 425 fps speed
when firing 380-grain bolts. At the
crossbow’s core is a Carbonlite riser,
which is injection-molded of propri-
etary, composite, long-glass hybrid
fiber. This material results in less ris-
er weight, shifting the balance point
toward the shooter. The 425’s patent-
ed step-through riser design elimi-
nates the need for a cocking stirrup,
reduces overall length and improves
balance. A rubber bumper on the
outside of the step-through section
protects the riser from damage.
