ometimes a chance happening changes the course

of your life. For Peter and Caroline Tansey it was

accidentally receiving a copy of French Property News,

meant for their friends, that prompted them to buy a

property themselves! As they say, it was serendipity, and it

certainly led to a happy conclusion as you can find out on

page 64. Brits who fall in love with France come from all

walks of life, and are young and old. While we feature

lots of stories of couples and families who’ve bought a holiday or permanent

home across the Channel, many single folk find themselves in France too. It

can be more daunting taking that first step alone, but there’s no reason to be

put off, as you’ll see on page 26. In this August issue, we also feature a couple

of locations that couldn’t be more different. Provence (page 38), whose

scenery and luminous light has long attracted artists and holidaymakers, is

a wonderful place to be at any time of year, but is particularly beautiful in

summer. Not so far away geographically, but almost a polar opposite in what

it offers, is Les Deux Alpes. Snow in August? Yep, that’s right; here you can

experience winter and summer all in one day – turn to
