and local systems. They can tell
you more about the area, help you
make the right decision about
which property to buy, and
accompany you on property
viewings or visits to the notaire.
They can also help you set up a
bank account and put you in touch
with currency companies and
legal/financial advisors. If you’re
considering doing any building
work or renovation to the
property, they can assist you in

finding out whether the work is
possible before you commit to the
sale. They can also talk you
through the diagnostic reports
provided by the vendor, and help
set up house insurance.
The handholder may be able to
act for you in certain situations,
saving you from making multiple
trips to France. This can be useful
after you’ve purchased too.
If you’re selling a property, a
handholding service can help with
things like closing your bank
account, utilities and insurance.

After you’ve bought
Once the keys are in your
possession, your handholding
company can assist with tasks like
setting up utilities (electricity, gas,
water, phoneline etc) and
insurance (health, car etc).
If you’re relocating, they can
help you with social services and
healthcare as well as matters such
as obtaining a French driving
licence or registering your UK car
in France.
Renovating a property, or even
doing small building works, can be
tricky whether you’re based at the

property or not, so this may be an
area where you need a hand, from
builder recommendations to full
project management.
Those starting or buying an
existing business may need
specific advice on accountancy or
tax regimes, and the different
ways you can set up a business in
France – there are English-
speaking companies who can help
with this.

Holiday homes
If you’ve bought a holiday home,
property management companies
can provide peace of mind by
looking after your property when
you’re not there.
Perhaps you plan on renting it
out when you’re not using it?
Again, there’s help out there, from
a full management service
(advertising, handling bookings,
looking after the property, and tax
obligations) to simply helping with
changeovers between guests.
Whatever you need in France, it
helps to know there’s someone on
hand to advise you and make sure
you can relax and enjoy your
French property to the full.
