JOIE DE VIVRE
A fitting gift for any Francophile is
this tricolore-inspired unisex watch.
The distinctive red, white and blue
strap is countered by a minimalist,
face with Swiss-made quartz Ronda
movement. It is available with a
rose-gold, classic silver or model
silver frame.

Quel mot est né en même temps que vous?
(Which word was born at the same time
as you?)
To celebrate over 50 years of Le Petit Robert, the
brains behind the famous dictionary have put
together a fun site where you can find out
which word was ‘born’ at the same time as you.
Simply input your email address and your date
of birth, and the algorithm works its magic to
find out what neologism made its breakthrough
in that year. You might be surprised by the
answer! Words celebrating their 50th birthday
this year include ‘doudoune’, meaning anorak or
stuffed toy.

F is for figue
Whether served as an accompaniment to
cheese or as part of a tasty dessert, the fig is
a well-loved and versatile ingredient in
France. There are a number of small Fêtes de
la Figue across France, including in Solliès-
Pont in Var in August and in Caromb in
Vaucluse in July.
For a savoury dish, fresh figs work really
well in a starter when paired with slices of
mozzarella and drizzled with olive oil, fresh
herbs and some pine nuts.
A popular dessert in France is a tarte aux
figues, made with a shortcrust pastry tart
base and filled with crème fraiche. If you’re
feeling nutty, elevate yours to the next level
by adding ground almonds to the base and
topping with a handful of sliced ones.
